Move over Big Bird...

No, we didn't drop any... but they were hallowed just in case!!

Ostrich egg relay anyone??
She's a celebrity...debuted on the episode of "Fear Factor" when the contestants had to each drink one of her eggs!
I've never sat around pondering things like, oh say, ostriches, but when I heard about an ostrich ranch that gives tours (thanks Jayme!!) we jumped on the opportunity. What a fun time! The ranch was only about one hour's drive from our house, nestled in a small mountain community just east of us, and it was beautiful! We learned all kinds of fun facts yesterday, things that I could have gone my whole life without needing to know, but hey, knowledge is power right? For instance, I did not know that an ostrich egg weighs 3 pounds and is equivalent to 2 dozen chicken eggs...an ostrich hatches at one foot tall and grows a foot a month for 14 months...ostriches have a powerful enough kick to send a lion flying through the air...they are the "other red meat" with only 1/3 the fat content of beef an 1/2 the fat of chicken (mom, I am not eating ostrich so don't even ask!)...I could go on but I'll spare you. Needless to say I have a new fondness for these giant, feathered, pea-brained friends. They're kind of cute too. And the kids could probably rattle off more facts than I could. No, it might not help with their SAT's someday, but it was a great morning nonetheless!!

Wow. Ostriches. Now there's an animal we DON'T have....yet. I'll have to keep my girls away from there so they don't get any ideas. :-)

Just wondering - did you check Dylan's pockets before you headed home? I can't believe he wouldn't have tried to smuggle an egg home to add to his "treasures".

One more thing...if you do find one of those eggs in his collection, please don't let him include it in the treasures he brings tonight - I don't want to have that under the covers with me:)

Sophie seems to think we need to go home with a miniature sized stuffed version of anything alive and furry for her to snuggle with at night! I am glad the souvenir shop didn't have any!
