Endless Summer...?

Yesterday I looked at my calendar and was shocked--- school starts in just three weeks!!! How did this happen?! Ok, so it's not a complete end to our summer, because let's be realistic, out here "summer" lasts well into October. And, it's not like we're technically 'headed back to school', at least not in the same way that our friends do. But still, it's the end of an era if you will. The idea that in a few short weeks "schedules" find us, school work resumes, and commitments seem to crawl out from under every rock they were hiding (probably trying to escape the heat like the rest of us!). Then, before we know it the stores will be rolling out the tinsel and poinsettas! Life just seems to be passing faster than ever before...

Our summer has been pretty great. The kids had VBS and swim lessons, but other than that not too much. Lots of playing in the sprinklers, backyard family time when the sun began to set, and some fun bickering between the boys. Our 4th of July was a hit, the kids loved their patriotic "parade". Justin and I celebrated our 10th anniversaryy with a night away at a Bed and Breakfast--very wonderful... and much easier to leave the kids than I'd expected! Shelbi's adoption will be final in just a few week so that is another special event that our summer will hold. And Dylan finally overcame his terrible fear of the water thanks to Mr. Brett. What a major milestone!

I guess like everything, I try to hold on to the present for just a little longer. Of course, some days I want to hit the fast forward button, but usually life does that for me. And realizing that I only have ten more summers until my Christian heads off to college really helps put it all in perspective...
